MOTODEV Community User Guidelines

[ Edited ]

MOTODEV Community User Guidelines

Participation in the MOTODEV community constitutes agreement to the following guidelines, which apply to posts on discussion boards or blogs, profile information, avatars, signatures, any other content on this site and participation in general.

The MOTODEV community consists of discussion boards and blogs. These boards are for developers to share coding tips and tricks, exchange ideas and information, and get development advice from MOTODEV engineers and other experts in the Motorola ecosystem. The blogs are a way for us to communicate to our members and non-members that are interested in developing mobile applications for Motorola phones.

Blogs:

MOTODEV members and non-members can post a comment to a specific blog post. All comments are moderated before they are posted. Comments should stay on-topic and follow our guidelines listed below. When not logged in, users can post an anonymous comment by filling in their name, email address, web-site (if available), and the re-captcha random characters.

Discussion Boards:

Because of the live nature of the discussions on this community, it is not possible for us to review and/or confirm the accuracy or validity of a message before it is posted. If you believe that someone has violated our User Guidelines or you have spotted content that may otherwise require attention, please use the Report Abuse link to report this issue including a brief description of what you believe is wrong. Reporting abuse is voluntary and anonymous, but in no case should a user respond to a situation personally, thereby aggravating the situation further. Responding to a violation in an inflammatory manner is a violation in itself and will result in appropriate action. Posting on our discussion boards requires a MOTODEV account. For more help on setting up and managing your account consult the Help Resource.

These Guidelines provide practical advice to help you tap the extensive experience within the MOTODEV community and earn the respect of other participants. Any content that violates our User Guidelines will be removed. Interpretation of our guidelines is at the discretion of Motorola.

1.          The MOTODEV community support team provides support in English and Mandarin Chinese through our dedicated developer discussion boards. However, if you are not able or comfortable posting your comments in English or Mandarin, we encourage you to post them in your native language.  We will do our best to translate, understand, and address your questions and comments.

2.         Cross-posting, posting the same information in two or more locations is not allowed and will result in the removal of one or more posts. When posting your topic, please try to post it in the most appropriate place within the community. Identical topics posted in the same or different forums will be removed.

3.         While member post count has meaning, it should not be taken too seriously. Attempts to artificially increase your post count are prohibited. This includes the mass creation of short or meaningless posts.

4.         Advertisements are not allowed. Posts made specifically for the promotion of a website, product or service are considered advertising and will be removed.

5.         You may only post a link to a site that you are in some way affiliated with if the link specifically helps to answer the question that is being asked.

6.         Do not post personal, real-life contact information such as mailing address, phone number or email address in a message. The discussion boards are viewable by anybody. If you wish to share personal contact information with other MOTODEV members you may include it in your User Profile or send it to another user in a private message. You may further limit who can view your profile information using the personal privacy settings in your account preferences.

7.         Vulgar language and inappropriate material is not allowed and will be removed. Abbreviations, self censoring, and attempts to circumvent the word censoring feature of the community software also violate this guideline. If your post contains a word that is censored by the software, you must remove that word or the post will be removed. If you feel that the censor is acting in error, please contact us.

8.         Posts that discuss illegal activities, transactions, or websites such as warez, cracks, hacks will be removed. This includes the posting of information that you have obtained illegally, or linking to sites that provide this type of information.

9.         Post that discuss the hacking, cracking or other unsupported activities on Motorola devices may be removed. Support for Motorola devices that include an unlockable/relockage bootloader is provided on the Motorola Support Forums.

10.       Do not post copyrighted materials (articles, videos, audio, etc.) that you do not have permission to reproduce or distribute. For text articles, most of the time you may quote a small portion of the article and you must link to the source (if online) or provide the source (if offline). Posting the entire article, even with the source, constitutes copyright infringement.

11.       When posting and linking to images, videos, files, etc., please refrain from hotlinking. This is the direct linking to images (.jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, etc.), video (.avi, .mov, .mpg, .mpeg, .wmv, etc.), audio (.mp3, .wav, etc.), archives (.zip, .rar, etc.) or otherwise downloadable or streamable files, on servers that you do not have permission to link to. You should instead provide a link to the web page on the third party web site where the item can be found.

12.       Respect your fellow community members. Please refrain from inflammatory and defamatory comments as well as flaming, taunting, and general disrespect.

13.       In your signature, you may mention websites and ventures that you are in some way related to, as long as they are otherwise appropriate for this community.

14.       Each user is allowed to create one account. If you would like to change your username, please contact us. Most likely, we can do it for you allowing you to keep all of your profile data, posts, and other content.

15.       Automated account creation, participation, and content scraping are not permitted.

16.       Moderators and Administrators have the final say on all issues. If you have a problem, you may make a complaint to them directly and not publicly on the website. Creating threads or posts that question or reference administrative decisions or potential administrative decisions, such as post removals and thread closures, is not permitted. If you feel that we have made a mistake, please privately contact a staff member and we will review the situation.

If a user violates our guidelines and shows a disregard for them, our staff and our community, they run the risk of losing their account. We reserve the right to deactivate any account and to edit or remove any content without warning. These guidelines are subject to change at any time without notice.

Do you have a question about our User Guidelines or anything else? Do you have a suggestion? Do you want to offer some feedback? Or are you experiencing some trouble with the site? Please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be glad to help in any way that we can.
