Webinar: Improving Enterprise App Quality

You've probably heard this question before: How do you test your Android apps? Eric Cloninger, Product Line Manager for MOTODEV App Validator, likes to use a familiar tone from a popular beer commercial when he says,"I don't always test my apps, but when I do, I do it in production."

Here at MOTODEV, we've heard this over and over again from developers. Some developers wait until they have 1 star reviews in Android Market before they test their apps, and fix bugs. Others say they use a testing team to test their apps. But what if you could use a testing tool that gave you feedback about your app right on the spot?

MOTODEV App Validator is a free static analysis testing tool that operates on your Android application and optionally on an Eclipse project containing the application source code. You can easily test your apps and get results on the spot.

What kinds of tests does App Validator support? There are many and they are all described in this online document, but here are just a few that enterprise developers should agree are useful:

  • Too many or too few permissions in the application manifest, resulting in application crashes or unnecessary security warnings
  • Missing drawable resources for density-specific layouts, resulting in poorly drawn images or force-close errors
  • Failure to close database cursors from SQLite calls, resulting in memory leaks and application errors over time
  • Incorrect manifest settings, resulting in applications not being discovered in the Android Market or behaving inconsistently on different types of devices

Learn more about how you can use MOTODEV App Validator in this webinar with Eric Cloninger.
