- July 11th and 12th, during Chicago Barcamp we covered:
Unfortunately, the recording for Mark Murphy's "Maps and Map Integration" presentation was lost. The presentation itself was wonderful and it got a really good response by many people in the audience. The Chicago Androids would like to thank Mark for his wonderful dedication, and for providing prices for the code-sprint as well. Mark is an Android published author, and renown community contributor. You can find his work at http://commonsware.com/

By the way, besides the above mentioned recordings, most of the the presentation's materials for the series (Part 1 to 5, and persistence) can be found here.
Code-Sprint Highlights:
We started the Code-sprint around 6PM on Saturday and the first thing was to decide what to do. We decided to go with the RunWithMe project, (to createa
GPS enable jogging music companion ) . The main feature is to allow you to create playlists associated to geographical coordinates, so that you can here
your Rocky music on your home stretch. In the future we might look at such things as timers, pedometer, record course, time, etc.

We started by dividing the work in sections, setting up the site for the app: code.google.com/p/runwithme/ , and some of the guys stared by looking at how to read music of the sdcard, how to create an layout with and adaptive array that will allow you to select the music that you want to play, etc. Some of us call the day off around 8PM.
Apparently nighttime ended up being quite a ruckus and everyone had a lot of fun, but not much got done.

The following morning more of us got together and kept on working in the app, looking at the underlaying structure, organizing it, etc.
These are the individuals that participated in the code-sprint and got a free 6 month subscription to www.commonware.com: Steve K., Martin C, Nemanja S., Atul A., Heflin R., Steven F., Jason S, and James W.

We had a lots of fun, learned quite a few new things about Android development, etc. and around 3PM Sunday we decided that it would be great to make the project an ongoing opportunity and a excuse to have people coming together, hack on Android, and learn in a practical way about all the topics we covered in the series. The project was not completed, but we are going to work on it in future sessions that will be open to anyone interested on Android development. Join us and don't miss out the fun! We will be sending an announcement out with more details to our group's mailing list.
Final thoughts
I can only say how thankful I am to all the people that helped with the series (Neal, James, and Mark), all of those who attended, and the Barcamp organizers for providing us with food, refreshments, and a location to make this happen.
In particular, I want to thank Carl Karsten and Cosmin Stejerean, for "almost" recording every session in the series. I've heard from many people how thankful they are at being able to follow up the series from afar, so: thank you, because you make that happen!
Chicago Androids will be meeting for more runwithme sessions soon, and during August we will have our next formal session. We are already working on it, so stay tune for details on when, what, and where. Until then, join the discussion and stay tune via http://tinyurl.com/chicagoandroids
Thank you!
