Apart from pleasure to see Java/Linux stack getting more and more support all over the mobile world,

there's one question lurking in the back of one's mind: why Moto made so many twists during last 9 years?

Will Moto be abandoning WinMo and just heading on with Android? Will developers be forced to develope separate applications for each model of phone? (like the cursed winmo?) OR can they do like iPhone developers and develop ONE application and beable to have any Android customer install it no matter what device?

Great questions, @TheAgentx. Motorola will continue to develop WinMo products in the mid-to-high tier while creating next-gen products for Android. Android allows developers to write applications that work across the wide range of handsets running Android. If you stick to the published APIs and don't make assumptions about the hardware (such as all devices having a hard keyboard or the same display size), you should be fine. Check out developer.android.com for more from Google on this topic.

Google does publish a number of best practices for supporting multiple devices (even ones that don't exist yet) including these links:

Hi,

It will be interesting to see how you Moto guys will differentiate from the other Android offerrings. Android provides a lot of potential for handset vendors, car makers, other embedded and/or connected devices etc. Not all Android products will be phones.

I do wish you luck to succeed in this tank of smaller and larger sharks :-)
