Develop #Android Apps for the Motorola DEVOUR

by TimG on 02-18-2010 03:13 PM - last edited on 02-18-2010 03:13 PM

Hey everybody, my name is Tim Gupta, and I'm one of the code monkeys on the team that manages the MOTODEV website. I enjoy semantic HTML markup, unobtrusive JavaScript, and long walks on the beach at sunset... You might even call me a geek. But I digress.

If you're a football fan (or at least a commercials fan), you might have seen Motorola's commercial featuring the Motorola DEVOUR™ with MOTOBLUR™. Oh yeah, and Megan Fox.

But if you're a developer, you might be wondering where to go to get the scoop on the...well...geekier aspects of the phone. And I can help you with that.

PRODUCT SPECS

If imagining your app running on DEVOUR's Qualcomm MSM7627 processor, 256MB of RAM, and HVGA screen display resolution get you revved up, check out all the product specs for the details on the inner workings of this handset.

PRODUCT DEMO

Nothing brings out the true inner geek than a demo. Reading specs can only take you so far – to really see the DEVOUR and grab hold of the experience, a product demo is in order. And so without further ado, here is Rick Osterloh, VP of Android Software & MOTOBLUR Services at Motorola, giving a tour of this device.

DEV TOOLS

So you're ready to start creating that awesome, game-changing, life-saving, earth-shaking app and seeing millions of happy people using your app every day on their DEVOUR? Head over to MOTODEV and download MOTODEV Studio for Android, and top if off with the SDK add-on for DEVOUR so you can create that special version of Pac-man you've been dreaming about.

Of course, there's much more at MOTODEV – we've really only scratched the surface. There are events, technical articles, and even support in case you get stuck. And by the way, if you have ideas on some things you would like to see in the future for MOTODEV, let us know in your comments.

So what are you waiting for? Let your geek shine, and start developing for DEVOUR today!

Liked the DEVOUR demo and wondering about some of the other basic specs like battery life. I am building enterprise-level apps for specific organizations (and hence don't show up in the Android market) .

It would be also nice - altho' unrealistic due to legalities - if there was some visibility around update (to 2.x) schedule as well as timeframe for additional carriers.

1) How do you keep the bluetooth volume from turning all the way down every night when you charge the two devices?

2) I need to view NOAA radar loops.  They require JAVA, can you just download Linux Java?

hey Steve. thanks for the comment. Not an expert on your topic but a good place to post these questions would be in the Owner's Forum at https://supportforums.motorola.com/community/google-android/devour
