I am using an attacahed CLIQ and development is working pretty nicely with MotoDev STUD-io.  However, when I try to browse the database, I am stuck watching an animated "Waiting for the device to load..." message.  Any clues?  I have power cycled the phone (a.k.a. reboot) and removed/connected the USB cable and nothing seems to change the behavior.

Peace,

Scott

I was under the impression that you could not browse databases on normal devices. Emulators yes, normal devices no.

Hi Scott,

On an actual device, you are prevented from seeing many databases. But, there should be some that show up. I've tested this on our prototypes as well as the G1. I can't say I've tried it on a production phone, though.

There is a workaround that you may need to apply to talk to a device. In your Studio installation, find the file named ./configuration/config.ini. Change the value of osgi.bundles.defaultStartLevel from '4' to '1'.

Good luck.

Thanks Eric --

Should I need to make this config change if I *can* debug my app on the phone?  Is this hack strictly to allow browsing the database(s)?

Scott

That trick is specifically to allow the discovery of databases on the device.

Thanks Eric --

Is there a reason that a device database is not naturally included?  One day soon, I see myself upgrading STUD-io (or using it on another machine) and forgetting what flags I flipped to get the browser to work on my devices.  You know the drill...

Peace,

Scott

Hey Scott,

I'm not sure I follow what you are asking for. Do you want a cross-reference of all the devices?  That information is available in the technical library as new phones are announced.

Or is it a feature request? If there is a workflow you feel we need to build into Studio, feel free to email me with the details.

When a device is plugged in (usb) the database explorer shows it in the MOTODEV Database Explorer and the "real device" loops indefinitely with the animated graphic "Waiting for the device to load."  I would suggest either the configuration support the device or else they do not show up in the list.

Peace,

Scott
